QuickAdd not quite convenient Rated 4 out of 5 stars

From time to time, I encounter this situation: if I am at www.google.com and want to quickadd it as *.google.com, it could not be done automatically with the current pattern system and I have to type it myself (delete the "www", and type a "*"). In autoproxy this could be done with only 2 clicks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.2.2).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Yes, making QuickAdd subdomain aware is on our ToDo list for a long time now. Alas, we were not able to implement that yet. We'll see if we get to it in the near future...

Good proxy addon. Can be a bit hard to use for a novice. Otherwise it's pretty solid.

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very good addon. No performance impact, tiny resource usage. Some packet-sniffing showed me that every attempt to load a certain URL was sent through the proxy configured for it and not a single packet went directly to the target IP.
Very good toolbar button implementation too, both the new type widget and the old variant. It would just be nice if the Tools menu were made the "proper" way. If that was done to allow the color coding, you can still apply that to a regular menu if you embed some CSS into the overlay. Otherwise I don't see why the Tools menu is made so strangely.

Not sure what you mean with "if the Tools menu were made the 'proper' way". Could you follow up via email georg[@]getfoxyproxy[.]org (without the brackets) or in our forum: http://forums.getfoxyproxy.org/ ? Thanks!

Not compatible with certain YouTube embed videos Rated 4 out of 5 stars

If FoxyProxy is enabled, certain YouTube embed videos doesn't load. Did YouTube change something? You can test it in: http://terrillthompson.com/tests/youtube.html (Look at Examples #4 and #7)EDIT: Happens both in Windows and Linux. I don't know why, but all embed videos load correctly if you are using HttpFox, so you can use it as a workaround.
EDIT2: Oops, I didn't read the developer's comments available below...

It seems to block the flash widget code of soundcloud in firefox 22. I find that the flash music player could not be displayed in a website after this add-on is upgraded. When I disable it, everything is ok.

firefox bug

Hi, you are probably being affected by this Firefox bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=883968 which is fixed in Firefox 23 (to be released August 2013). In the meantime, you can try uninstalling/reinstalling FoxyProxy. That has helped some users. You could also downgrade to the previous version of FoxyProxy until Firefox 23 release. Those previous versions can be found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-standard/versions/ and https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-basic/versions/

Twitch.tv bug Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Since i'd patch to FF22 FoxyProxy blocks streams on twitch.tv. I havent change anything in it. When i deactivate it the streams works fine. Pls fix :(Update: I un- and installed it, now its fine. :))

Nice to hear. Btw: There is a real bug here on Mozilla's side you probably hit: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=883968. Alas, this is not fixed in Fx 22 but only in Fx 23 onwards. Thus, if a FoxyProxy update (probably to 4.2.1/3.2.1 which are pending review) triggers this again you know what is going on.

Good, but currently have a nasty bug: for some reason it disables FF built-in protection from bad redirects, which leads to memory-eating freezes. This happens even with "completely disable FoxyProxy" set in menu, as long as the addon itself is not disabled (then FF starts to report an endless redirect correctly).

Thanks for the review and the bug report. Could you give us an example which lets us reproduce your issue?

Awesome!

Edited to add: I just determined that the large space I previously reported was caused by another add-on.

Hi,
thanks for this review. I am not sure I understand what you are talking about. Could you open a thread in our forum (possibly with a screenshot explaining your issue) (http://forums.getfoxyproxy.org/) or write me an email to georg[@]getfoxyproxy[.]org (without the brackets) and I'll look into it.

This very useful addition with excellent functional, but wanted greater. =)
Please add ability to use different proxy settings for private and not private windows ( https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Supporting_per-window_private_browsing ) and for tabs ( https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/private-tab/ ), if possible. =^_^=

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.3).

Hi,
well, the first is already on our ToDo list but the second is much more tricky as there is no proxy per tab interface provided by Mozilla and there are requests which stem from Mozilla/Firefox internal code that are not even associated with a window. I've opened a ticket in our bugtracker though to collect ideas how to route around these obstacles.

Great Extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Edited: Tested again, dns leak was not caused by Foxyproxy.
The best proxy extension for FF, except for the DNS Leak problem...using it with flagfox, destination server IP is alway showed though I have set HTTP proxy for that, and I am sure it's been proxied...coz the site is blocked in china. When using Socks5 proxy and set remote DNS, everything goes OK(no dns leak). I dont know whether it is related to the proxy's IP which is 127.0.0.1 i.e. my local address. Unless DNS leak is totally fixed, I will use autoproxy instead.Thanks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.3).

I am not sure what your problem is, actually. But FoxyProxy is NOT leaking DNS if you are using an HTTP proxy as using an HTTP proxy never leads to local DNS resolution. Rather, the HTTP proxy is always resolving DNS itself. That said I'd like to help you, though. Feel free to contact me at georg[@]getfoxyproxy[.]org (without the brackets) or open a thread in our support forums: http://forums.getfoxyproxy.org/. I'd probably need some screenshots and your system information (OS, FoxyProxy version...) in order to reproduce/understand your problem.

Thanks for the comments, Jedihawk. They are much appreciated.

Status bar icons Rated 4 out of 5 stars

In general the add-on does what it says and is relatively easy to use.

The instructions say "Please do not post bug reports in reviews", but - sorry - I don't want to have to become a members of yet another forum to post this, so here goes.

In the version 4.1.1. unlike previous ones, every time I start my computer and Firefox, the FoxyProxy icon is in the status bar.

It's not a giant issue to get rid of it, but it's definitely one of those minor pains.

If it can be fixed, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Again, sorry for violating the "rules". Thanks for your understanding.

P.S. By the way, I'm still using FX 3.6.29 - which I know is EOL - but I have a special reason for doing so. Thanks again.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.1).

Hi,
alas, I can't reproduce your issue in a clean, new profile on Fx 3.6. I need your help in figuring out what is going on (you can reach me via email: georg[@]getfoxyproxy[.]org (without the brackets)). Btw: That is one reason why we suggest the forum for bug reports as the back and forth is much easier to handle there than here in the review section.

solution for firefox18 problem Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have the same problem after update to Firefox18 - but I found a solution without creating a new profile!

1. disable FoxyProxy
2. go to the Firefox network settings and unselect "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network", I've inserted my default proxy settings at "Automatic proxy configuration URL:"
3. enable FoxyProxy
4. SMILE

It will be a good idea to add a search bar in Foxyproxy 's URL pattern settings dialogue.
I have too much url patterns, and sometimes I need to edit some of them.
It is not easy to get the one you need.
If the author can add a search bar in the URL patterns diaglogue of Foxyproxy just like AD block plus did in its preference dialogue, it will be helpful.

working on it

Hi Peng, thanks for the review. Your request is a great idea. We will add it to FoxyProxy shortly.
