This addon is very similar to my other addon "SelectAndDefineAnyDictionaryWebsite"https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/selectanddefineanydictionar/
The difference is this one uses panel boxes to give the definition whereas the other one give the choice to use new tabs as well.
NOTE For Version 0.2
Updated so that the user's URL appears in the context menu.
Also Acronymfinder and Freedictionary Acronym links added to just start the user off.
One use for this tool is to find a website that has definitions of words in a language you need. If its search url for a word is say http://www.thisisanexampleofagreekdictionary.com/giant
where GIANT is the word you want translated, you simply add http://www.thisisanexampleofagreekdictionary.com/
as the URL you are going to use then select a word like GIANT at another website and it will go and get the definition for you.
There are all kinds of ways to use this URL request tool. You just simply set the URL and any words you select will be tacked on the end of the URL and sent off. You can also have the selected word inbetween two parts of a long URL. This is set in the Options menu.
Once sent you will get a pop up panel with your definition or other information you want.
Just select a word, right click it and select the choice in the context menu. It should list your URL, if you have set it, or it will read Acronymfinder.com
as default. It will then go and get the information.
You can also use CTRL-8 and CTRL-9 to get the info. Selecting CTRL-SHIFT-8 or 9 will put the page into a new tab for you.
Click anywhere outside of the pop up panel to remove it after use.
The sites www.acronymfinder.com
and Freedictionary Acronym URLs are set as default now in this addon v0.2. So selecting an acronym like LOL or ROFL etc can be quickly looked up.
is good for acronyms, it has foreign language acronyms as well.
Please post in the Reviews area for this extension if you find it useful, or any interesting ways you are using it.
