NOTE: Mailing lists are buggy, but gContactSync tries to work around these bugs whenever possible. The fake e-mail addresses nobody...@nowhere.invalid are necessary to prevent bugs in mailing lists. It is best to drag contacts into the main address book and add them to groups from Google's interface.
Don't try to delete or rename "My Contacts", "Coworkers", "Family", or "Friends" or you may have to 'reset' that address book.
Tutorial/Demo (work in progress): http://www.pirules.org/extensions/gcontactsync/tutorial/intro.php
It makes several modifications and improvements to the Address Book including more fields and types for several fields.
- Thunderbird 2 and up (including 3.0 and 3.1)
- Seamonkey 2 and up
- Icedove (Debian-branded Thunderbird)
- Support for Postbox coming soon
Please read the Developer Comments as well.
I have several new features planned for 0.3.0 and welcome more suggestions. 0.3 will allow synchronizing one account with several address books and supports synchronizing an address book with only one group of your choice.
If you find a bug or have a question, please let me know about it. See the support information for the details.
Note: Mailing Lists in Thunderbird in Seamonkey are still somewhat buggy, especially when contacts are dragged and dropped into them. They don't work with contacts that don't have e-mail addresses, so gContactSync will add e-mail addresses like firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the synchronization fails or the status text says "Synchronizing..." after dragging contacts into a mailing list, go to gContactSync -> Preferences -> Accounts then click "Reset All Synced ABs" and restart Thunderbird. If you want to change the groups a contact is in, you may want to use Google's interface.
